SC Youth Day Deer Hunt 2022: The Statewide Youth Deer Hunt is held on the Saturday following January 14. The tagging of deer must be done immediately after the kill before the animal is moved away from the point of kill to the Department’s office for validation. Tags must remain attached to the deer carcass until it is processed. The title must be a valid SC Youth Day Deer Hunt 2022 sticker. It is the responsibility of the youth to tag a deer if it has no antlers.
Adult hunting privileges
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources may designate specific days for youth deer hunting. These days are held outside of the regular season on non-school days and must be exclusively for antlered deer. The dates of the youth deer hunting days vary, depending on whether the hunt is part of a split or another open season. Depending on the age group, youth hunting privileges may be up to fourteen days before or after the regular season or occur during another open season.

In-Game Zones 3 and 4, this day falls one day before the general season and archery season opens. In-Game Zone 1, this day falls one week before the regular season. Additionally, a second youth day will take place on January 8, 2022. The youth day will be held on private land and some WMAs.
The date of the SC youth day deer hunt is January 2. Youths who are 16 to 17 years old are eligible. Those who do not have any hunting connections will be given preference in the selection process. Upon completing the hunt, the youth will receive a gift certificate for a future trip.

An adult must remain with the child, even if it is a handgun. The youth hunter must follow all other deer hunting regulations. Deer season begins on August 15, 2022, with any weapon and lasts until January 1, 2023. A velvet buck can be shot with a rifle during the first two weeks of the season. Hog season is open all year with any weapon, and night hunting is available from January 1 to July 1.
Zone 1 of the game (Private Lands) Youth Deer Hunting Days are September 25th and 26th. Only antlered deer, limit 1, and either-sex deer limit 2. Tags aren't necessary.
Call the SCDNR office at 803-734-3898 or fill out the application online. Only 17-year-olds and under who are accompanied by an adult of at least 21 years are eligible. Youth hunters are required to hunt using a firearm. Adults may also track and carry firearms.
Residents and non-residents under the age of 16 are not required to have a hunting license in South Carolina. To hunt specific game species, people must obtain permits and tags. The Junior Sportsman License is available to South Carolina citizens aged 16 to 17.
State laws and regulations prohibit deer hunting. All WMAs accept rimfire rifles of 22 calibers or less. There are no caliber restrictions on private property.
2.4 It is illegal to hunt or capture wildlife on WMA territory unless you have a valid South Carolina hunting license, a valid WMA permit, and other necessary federal or state permits, stamps, or permits.
On this specified day, there are no license or tag requirements. Adults are permitted to guide, but only adolescents can take or attempt to take deer. There are no restrictions on firearms, ancient weapons, or archery equipment. Only antlered deer are permitted, and the bag limit is one.
The prohibition on deer baiting on private lands in Game Zones 1 and 2 was repealed by Act 2 of the 2013 South Carolina General Assembly. As a result, deer baiting is no longer forbidden on private land in South Carolina. Baiting or hunting with bait is still banned on WMAs across the state.
The legal deer shooting season runs from one hour before official sunrise to one hour after official dusk (50-11-710). It is illegal to pursue deer with dogs in Game Zones 1 and 2. (50-11-310).
Children under the age of ten are not permitted to hunt. You must be ten years old to engage in firearms/archery safety instruction. Young deer hunters between the ages of 10 and 15 must have a junior license. You must be at least 16 years old and have a current adult license to hunt.
